Sometimes, I really don’t want to write. I’d much rather be at my computer playing my favorite games or reading one of my TBR stacks. I’d rather be playing in my garden (as pitiful as it is).
But the days I don’t want to write are probably the days I need to write the most; otherwise, I may run into the habit of not writing at all, just based on vibes alone. Even if it means I need to force myself to just write 500 words, that’s 500 more words added to my manuscript, and she’s a hefty one.
The general word count for debut novels is around 50k, give or take. Speculative fiction has a little more leeway, given that the author has to do some worldbuilding and establishing the ground rules of that world. Currently, I’m looking at around 80k-90k for The Collective when all is said and done. I’m hoping that won’t count me out since it’s a debut and a space opera, so fingers crossed in that aspect!
I’ll be adding a word track page for some accountability for myself.
Happy writing!
